SCD Awareness Month
Global Initiative for Sickle Cell Anemia
The Global Initiative for Sickle Cell Anemia (GISA) in a bid to create awareness and impact our advocacy efforts, we seek that Warrior Teams around the world advocate through their governments for a month filled with media and physical awareness and advocacy campaigns to be gazetted every year to impact the lives of people affected by SCD through research and treatment of sickle cell disease.

Every year we come up with a theme that is shared with our Warrior Teams across the globe, our theme for this year is ‘Fighting Sickle Cells Together’, are used to direct specific focus of campaigns. We develop promotional and educational material that is shared across all our Warrior Teams and associates. We gazetted the month of July as our annual month of advocacy. During this month we hold a series of events that help empower us all at unimaginable levels.

We encourage every Warrior Team to organize a month of advocacy as a national effort to increase awareness about sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait.
Individuals and organizations can join our efforts to bring attention to sickle cell disease by engaging elected officials for declarations, hosting awareness events, distributing educational information to dispel the mythologies about sickle cell disease, and illuminating public spaces, buildings and landmarks with information about sickle cell disease!
